How To Prevent Texts From Being Sent To A Contact

There might be times when a customer no longer wants to receive messages from you. There are three ways to step sending texts to a customer:

1. Blocking All SMS

One step further, you can block all SMS and MMS from being sent to a customer. This prevents the contact from ever receiving a text from you on their phone again, even if their conversation appears in the sidebar and even if it appears like a message shows up in your conversation with them. It is a hard block at the carrier level.

To block SMS for a contact:

  1. Go to the conversation
  2. In the top right corner, click the dropdown menu
  3. Select "Info"
  4. At the bottom, hit "Block All SMS"

2. Your contact replies "STOP" or "UNSUBSCRIBE"

Lastly, if a customer has texted in "STOP" or "UNSUBSCRIBE," then by default they get a message from the carrier telling them they've blocked your number. Even if you send them messages in Bottle, those messages will not be delivered to their phones.

3. "Archiving" a conversation

Archiving a contact removes the conversation from your sidebar. It also prevents messages being sent to them in scheduled blasts. But if you ever re-import contacts, or if that customer messages or calls in to you again, then the contact re-appears and it is no longer archived.

To archive a conversation:

  1. Go to the conversation
  2. In the top right corner, click the dropdown menu
  3. Select "Info"
  4. At the bottom, hit the "Archive Conversation" button
